AGRICULTURE THE NEXT ALTERNATIVE TO BOOST NIGERIA’S ECONOMY

Agriculture is the act of rearing animals and cultivation of crops. Alternative is the next choice to make instead of something else. Economy is the relationship between production, trade and supply of money in a particular country.

On defining all those terms, I will like to discuss on how agriculture is the next alternative to boost Nigeria’s econopmy. Before the twenty-first century in the 1900s agriculture was the mainstay of the economy of Nigeria /it provided jobs, foreign exchange, infrastructure among other things to Nigeria and it was noted that at that point in time one Kobo was equivalent to one dollar. But things changed back when black gold was discovered (Crude Oil) in 1975. Ever since that time that has been the mainstay our present economy but there is a problem.

Other countries are now finding alternatives to petrol, which is a major product of crude oil due to environmental issues like global warming and these countries used to import this crude oil but sicne they are looking for ways to replace crude oil, its price has dropped which      resulted in inflation with the current exchange rate of Nigeria as two hundred naira to one dollar.

Now people may ask what is the way forward out of this mess, well the answer is agriculture and agriculture is the needed sector of the economy that needs to be revived for the entire economy to be boosted. It is bi-functional as well, it provides food for the nation and products for imports for foreign exchange.
Let’s all go back to way of our fore fathers where agriculture was the black gold, so that the economy will be boosted and the economic problems of Nigeria will be dissipated.
